Successful gig at Nutfield Cricket Club

Hello Fran.
 
The Redhill Community Big Band put on a brilliant show and created a fabulous atmosphere for us at Nutfield Cricket Club on 27th July. The rain did it's best to spoil things, but failed miserably largely thanks to the band's enthusiasm and fine musicianship. (The only dissenting voice was that of a small boy - 9 years old, I think - who would effortlessy win a competition to play the title role in a remake of the Just William stories. The only thing he hasn't got is a dog called Jumble).
 
At Nutfield Cricket Club we are in the early stages of discussing various additional events for 2008 which may well call for The Redhill Community Big Band. I will, of course, keep in close contact with you about this.
 
Meanwhile, please let the band know how much we enjoyed their visit, please accept my personal thanks for being such an easy person to deal with and please come back and play for us again on Friday 25th july 2008.

Welcome to new menbers of the Band
It is pleasing to welcome new members Ann and Geoff Banks on Keys and Tenor, Bernie and Bill on Alto, Alice on Alto and Chris on guitar. The Redhill and Reigate Community Big Band is taking off. Welcome also to Emma on Alto and Howard on trumpet. Long may the Band flourish. Still needed, two trumpets and two trombones. Are you out there?

Big Concert on the 22nd October.
All students and their friends, parents, family etc. are invited to a Big Band Concert at the Felbridge Hotel. The music will range from Glen Miller through Jazz classics of all eras and even some modern Funk arrangements. Cost is £5 and tickets are available from Neil. It will be a grand occasion with food and drink available, dancing and fun.

Redhill and Reigate Community Big Band
The Redhill and Reigate Community Big Band, Directed by Neil Hammerton, rehearses on Saturday mornings at 10:30am at Wray Common Primary School. 1st Rehearsal is on 3rd September 2005. Instruments required, Tenor Sax, Baritone sax, Trumpets and Trombones. Also Jazz Guitar and Piano. Any standard welcome, improvisation is taught as part of the session.

Youngest member so far is 10 years old, oldest is retired! (specific age witheld diplomatically.) Music ranges from Grade 2 standad to quite complicated, but help is given. And its fun! Come along. Cost is £2 per session.
